Ukraine - Kyiv

Kiev is the capital of Ukraine. It was founded in the 5th century. But modern Kiev looks young and beautiful. The city with the population of almost 3 million citizens is situated on the picturesque banks of the Dnieper river and consists of 14 city districts.
Kiev is a cultural, scientific and cultural center of Ukraine. The government and Parliament, a lot of important departments and embassies are located here. In Kiev there is the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, numerous research institutes, more than 20 universities and higher educational establishments, including famous University named after T.G.Shevchenko. Kiev higher educational establishments prepare thousands of qualified specialists; there are numerous scientific libraries at their disposal. Being a cultural center, our capital has seven theaters, the National Opera House, Philharmonic Society, a lot of movie theaters and museums. The worldwide-known is Shevchenko National Opera and Ivan Franco Ukrainian Drama Theatre. In Kiev there are also a lot of monuments, among them: the monument to T.G.Shevchenko and the monument to Bohdan Khmelnitsky. Dovzhenko studio is located here.

Kiev is rich on places of interest. It invites the guests to visit the numerous historical monuments. It is, first of all, Kyiv-Pechersky Monastery and St. Sophia Cathedral. The Monastery is the oldest cave monastery in Ukraine. Its history goes back to the 11th century. Especially attractive for visitors are its underground corridors with sacred relics. The St. Sophia Cathedral was built in 1037 during the reign of prince Yaroslav the Wise. It is very magnificent Cathedral and has its unique style. Golden Gates, Mariinskiy Palace and St. Volodymyr Cathedral are very popular among the citizens of Kiev and guests of the city. Kiev is a green city with a number of parks, gardens and public gardens. You can peacefully go for a walk along the avenue with chestnut trees. Or it is possible to visit the greatest and the brightest street of the city - noisy Kreshchatic. There you can find not only large firms, establishments and administrative buildings, but also a lot of comfortable restaurants and cafes, modern movie theaters, little shops and shopping centers in Kreshchatic.
